iPhone 6s and iPhone 6S Plus: What's the difference?

30 December 2016

When you have two models of an iPhone that release at such close intervals, it can be a dilemma whether you should upgrade or not. This was an issue faced by most iPhone 6S owners. If you also are wondering whether it is worth upgrading or not, here are the key differences between the two handsets.

Design and Display

In terms of size, screen resolution and storage, both phones are quite different. The screen in the iPhone 6S is 4.7 inches in size, with a resolution of 750X1334 and the phone comes with three storage options-32GB, 64 GB and 128 GB. In a case of the iPhone 6SPlus, the screen measures a humongous 5.5 inches with HD resolution. There is one more significant difference which is the weight and thickness. The iPhone 6S is a slimmer phone at 7.1 mm while the iPhone 6S is 7.3 mm in thickness. As for the weight the former weights 143 g while the latter is heavier at 192g.

With the notable increase in the size of the 6S Plus, many iPhone enthusiasts believe that it is a phablet. So if you are looking for easier handling, the 6S is your best bet. However, for those who want a phone that provides better gaming and movie viewing options, the 6S Plus can be a better choice.

Camera

Better camera quality is guaranteed with the iPhone6S and iPhone 6S Plus. The 8MP rear camera has been upgraded to a 12 MP camera that also has a much larger sensor. The live photo is a feature that you can avail with all these models of the iPhone. 4K videos are also an option with this series although it is a first for Apple phones. The front camera has also been upgraded from a 1.2MP in the iPhone 6 to a much-improved 5MP on the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus.

Optical image stabilization is not an option with the iPhone 6S.  The 6S model only has the option of Digital Image Stabilization option. This is a big advantage for the phablet or the iPhone 6S plus.

3D Touch

A new technology that has replaced the forced touch is the 3D touch. The sensitive panel helps distinguish between the various kinds of touch. You also have good vibration feedback to tell the user that a certain touch has been recognized.

Besides these upgrades, you cannot see much difference in these devices. They both have a stronger aluminum body that will not let the phone bend out of shape in any case. The phones come in a range of colors including rose gold, gold, and silver. The trademark silver grey is out of the picture however with this model.
